Season 2012
Post Match Reports
The all conquering South colts side has booked a place for the 2011 Grand Final with a resounding win in Saturday’s second semi final clash against Claremont. Both sides attacked the body and ball with vigour seldom seen in a colts game. The talented Claremont side were able to push the South boys to their limits and controlled major parts of the first half. The solid and calm South backline were able to repel many of the opposition forwards forays, and stem the tide until some late scores against the run of play enabled the South side to close within striking distance at the main break. The third quarter saw our midfield take control of the centre square and forced the ball forward to give the dangerous forwards plenty of opportunities to post a match winning lead. The fitness and skill of the top side were on show as the South team pulled away and closed off any chance of a Claremont revival. Their place in the Grand final is just rewards for a squad that has worked extremely hard to make the Big Red ‘V” a force once again in the minor grades.
On a differing note, I would like to congratulate the colts players named in the 2011 WAFL Colts Team of the Year. Jason Maskos, Robbie Thompson, Sean Lynch, Shannon Burnett, Haiden Schloithe, Marvin Warrell, Brendan Verrier and Mason Shaw for all receiving their accolades for a consistent and strong season. Mason Shaw also received the honour of being the competitions Leading Goal kicker and Haiden Schloithe being named as Coaches Player of the Year. Marvin Warrell capped off his great year by placing second for the Jack Clarke Medal count.

Colts Report
10/04/2012
Three games into the new season and the Colts side is yet to be pushed to the edge. Another dominant performance now sees them on top of the ladder after three relatively easy wins. Early opportunities to quickly close down a young inexperienced Swans side on Monday, were wasted as the slippery conditions made clean one grab football difficult. As the ground dried up so did the chance for Swans to have an impact on a South’s unit that is further ahead in their development. There were many fine contributors throughout the game, none more than Adam Carter (K Craft Bullbars Best player), who lead the very efficient backline in controlling the flow of play. Many attacking moves started with Matthew Gundry and Steve Rassmussen deep in defence which often allowed Brandon Davies and Sean Lynch to venture farther up field to force the ball inside our attacking areas. Tim Kelly and Reece Miller were again dominant in the centre breaks giving our forwards numerous chances to impact the scoreboard. Manny Collard once again relished the run up forward. He along with Josh Kyle and Ben Sokol have given our forward line a tougher edge and have learnt to make the most of their opportunities. Brendan Verrier run hard all day and is getting back to his best form, as are Dylan Main and captain Nick D’Andrea. This Sunday sees the boys confront last year’s Grand finalists who will certainly prove to be our toughest test so far this season.

Colts Report - Grand Final
26/09/2011
A Grand Final win was a fitting finale for the dominant South’s Colts. An outstanding year by all the players, support staff and the coaching crew. A well deserved result for all the toil of a ten month program and some exceptional efforts. The game itself was a terrific spectacle with a customary slow start by the favoured Bulldogs side. A rugged opening quarter was punctuated by some terrific and calm defensive efforts early from Steve Verrier and Jason Maskos. They were able to capitalise on the aerial efforts of Josh Bootsma and Robbie Thompson along with Sean Lynch and James Laurino to turn defence into attack and repel a fast starting Claremont side. The midfield held off a talented opposition early with Shannon Burnett, Dale Hamilton and Brendan Verrier supplying run and holding sway on the wide spaces on Subiaco Oval. Brendan Ahchee was at his flamboyant best and kept his team mates within striking distance at quarter time. The gallant Claremont side had placed the South boys under enormous pressure, but the unrelenting Bulldogs midfield slowly wrenched back the ascendancy during the early parts of the second quarter. Ruckmen Myles Bolger and Brandon Davies started to give our midfield first use of the ball at the stoppages; this was the signal for Adam Carter, Simon Panizza and Jacob Martinez to make sure the ball was heading in the right direction from the breakdowns and started a clawing back of a sizeable Tigers lead. Marvin Warrell and Haiden Schloithe found the open spaces to their liking and gave the opposition backs all sorts of headaches running far and wide to create options for our ball winners inside. The half time break saw the Bulldogs in front which must have had the Tigers coaching staff scratching their heads; watching a lead that had gone in just ten minutes of gut busting football from the South boys. The third quarter was definitely our premiership quarter. A nine goal effort from the South forwards was a real treat as Adem Sakin, Nick Carlson and Manny Collard chased and harassed at every opportunity and gave themselves every chance to post a winning score. Twin towers Shane Kerstin (5 Goals) and the “Mel Whinnen” medal winner Mason Shaw (7 Goals), were outstanding overhead and gave little away as they peppered the goals with regularity and accuracy. The players had spent all reserves of energy in a scintillating nine goal third quarter and were able to hang on with many of the boys succumbing to the warmer conditions with cramp in the last term. Any hope of a Claremont revival was quickly quashed as Nick Carlson slotted the goal of the day from the boundary and announced the champions of 2011 to be the South Fremantle Colts team.
